
AISI 316 is a high-grade austenitic stainless steel containing chromium, nickel and molybdenum, designed for use in aggressive and humid environments. The presence of molybdenum significantly increases corrosion resistance, particularly on contact with chemically treated water, chlorine or a saline environment. In the wellness sector, it is used to manufacture jets, structural elements, fasteners and internal components of hot tubs or cooling tubs. The material forms a passive protective layer on its surface, which prevents oxidation and degradation. As a result, it retains its mechanical strength and appearance during long-term operation. AISI 316 is the standard in professional and premium applications, where high resistance and a long service life are required.

AISI 304 and AISI 316: a comparison of stainless steels
Both are austenitic stainless steels and cannot be told apart by eye. The difference is in the composition: AISI 316 additionally contains molybdenum, which increases resistance to chlorides. Chlorides are precisely what attacks the surface of the steel in pool and hot tub water.

The practical consequence is simple: the longer a part stays in contact with treated water, the sooner it pays to reach for 316. For components that the water only reaches occasionally, AISI 304 is usually sufficient and the cheaper choice.
