PVC Flooring (Wellness Areas)

PVC flooring is a polyvinyl chloride wearing layer intended for areas in permanent contact with water and high humidity, such as shower zones, the surrounds of hot tubs, or the technical areas of wellness cabins. The material is supplied as homogeneous or heterogeneous sheets or tiles, which are welded into a continuous, watertight surface without seams that trap moisture. The surface can have a non-slip finish with a defined slip resistance coefficient, a safety requirement for wet walking surfaces. PVC is chemically resistant to the disinfectants commonly used in water maintenance. The material’s flexibility makes the floor comfortable underfoot, even when standing barefoot for extended periods.

Advantages of PVC flooring

  • Watertightness at welded joints: A continuous, seamless surface prevents water from penetrating the substrate structure.
  • Non-slip finish: A surface with a defined slip resistance coefficient reduces the risk of slipping in wet zones.
  • Resistance to disinfectants: The material withstands the common chemicals used to maintain pool and hot tub water without degrading.
  • Simple, fast maintenance: The smooth, non-porous surface cleans with ordinary washing, without the need for special products.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, when a UV-stabilised type intended for outdoor conditions is used. Standard interior PVC is not designed for prolonged sun exposure.

Homogeneous PVC has the same structure throughout its thickness and higher wear resistance; heterogeneous PVC has a wearing layer above a backing layer and is more affordable.

By hot-air welding or chemical welding, which creates a continuous, watertight surface without seams that could pose a risk.

Not with a non-slip finish rated at a higher slip resistance coefficient. The slip resistance class is selected according to the type of use and the risk of water contact.

With professional installation and normal use, service life is in the range of several decades.

Yes, the substrate must be level, dry and mechanically sound, in some cases with its own waterproofing beneath the PVC layer.
